El Arenosillo Atmospheric Station belongs to the National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA). It is located in Mazagón, Huelva, in the south-west of the Iberian Peninsula, about 700 m from the Atlantic coast and in the pre-park environment of Doñana.
The station is based around a 100 m tall tower equipped with meteorological sensors at 10, 50 and 100 metres. A laboratory located at the base of the tower hosts the instrumentation used to measure trace gases such as CO, CO2 and CH4. The facility also includes temperature and humidity control to support stable instrumental operation.
In addition to the tower, an atmospheric observatory located approximately 450 m away provides complementary measurements of trace gases, aerosols, solar radiation and meteorological variables. These measurements include compounds and parameters such as O3, NOx, SO2, VOCs, particle properties, UV and global radiation.
The station provides observations of great scientific interest for studying air-mass transport between the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and the interior of the Iberian Peninsula. Its location near Doñana also gives it particular relevance for monitoring environmental change close to a sensitive coastal ecosystem.
